Discipline is the practice of training
people to obey rules or a code of behaviour, using punishment to correct
disobedience. Most people associate discipline with something negative, especially
since the word discipline is often used in place of the word punishment.
However, in reality discipline is the only way that you will be able to go from
aspiration to actualization. Discipline trains us to have an organized life, to
be tougher person, to be focus on what we are doing and to be successful. Its time to change the way we think about
discipline.
Discipline pushes you to do something over
and over again, day and night despite pain, adversity, and discomfort.
Discipline requires us to wake up at 5 am to get prepared to go to school or
office , to go home at 6 pm, to manage regular meeting schedule, and to do
tasks efficiently (regarding time). It somehow teaches us to live in a regular
life which gives a good habit for us. Later on, good habit will shape a good
personality and will end up creating a good person.
“One painful
duty fulfilled makes the next plainer and easier,” Helen Keller once said in her book
titled The Story of My Life. Helen’s quotation stated that whenever someone
have surpassed hardship while doing their duty,
tasks which follow after that will be much easier to be solved. They
might have gained experience that teach them to be tougher person, both
physically and mentally.
Beside the two positive effects of
discipline stated above, Being discipline also helps us to be focus on
achieving our goal. Most people in the world failed in achieving their dreams,
not because they are not clever or good enough, but they lacked of discipline.
When obstacles come into their lives , they easily surrender and despair.
However, these will not happen if we have discipline kept within our heart and
mind. All the sweats and tears poured during the hardship will not be useless
because we will surely become succesful person.
In conclusion discipline is not a scary thing
if we see it through a proper perspective. Discipline is not just talking about
obeying rules or getting punishment as a consequence of disobedience , but also
trains us physically and mentally to be a good person with focused mind towards
goal. So, have you been prepared to be one?
